I've been working on my redesign for the better part of a year (and more) very sporadically. Trying various ways to start out. Never locking into something that I've enjoyed for longer than a week. This is mostly design-wise (I never follow the same process when working on personal projects). And these days I'm pushing myself to dedicate more time to locking down what I want my website to be (visually and content-wise).
Content-wise, I'm not sure if I should be wordy or brief. Brief with a simple design would be best for simplicities sake but sometimes going into details might better express oneself in defining to readers who they might want to work with.
The general elements I want to include in the structure are: Portfolio, Clients, Services, About, Contact, Hire.
Now in terms of what will be a page/navigation-item I'm still not 100% sure. Wondering if a Services page is actually necessary or a simple aside on the Homepage listing it would be enough. Or maybe a more complete aside in the About page. Since another thought will be how far should one dwell into about themselves and their company in the About page.
The Contact page is another tricky one. Wondering if it should just be a link to the email or an actual form. Which feels more friendly. One point I've settled on including is a Request for Proposal form to help me in better responding to project requests from new and old clients.
Another element I had been considering for a while but have finally decided to drop is a Blog. Because I wasn't sure if I should mix personal with professional topics. What will do is set it up as its own entity on its own domain to mix both freely.
Anyway, quite interested in seeing how you'll be orienting your future website. I'm still hunting for a comfortable direction.
